The Lonely Mountains
Wooden modell, 2003
h34 x 160 x w45 cm.
Holy Ground is a three-dimensional football field, a postmodern temple, a monument to honour the game of sport. It plays with the boundaries between architecture and sculpture, between art and sport, between sport and religion.
The realised sculptur/building is planned to be in scale 1:10 compared with an authentic football field which is 100 x 73 m.
- I suppose I have to mention sport and the constant return to it in my work. The world of sport has been a subject of interest for many years. It began many years ago with a fascination for the lines and rules of the game, the colours and the sound of the commentators on the radio. Since then, through my art, I have explored the impact and meaning of games and sport in our society from many different angles. I have tried to leave the subject, but I find myself coming back again and again.
